Multifunction Office
Machines
Multifunction office machines give you
several capabilities in one product, usually including printing, copying,
faxing, and scanning. These machines best serve a small office or a home office,
where you might not have desk space available for several different
products.
Multifunction office machines, also called
all-in-one devices, have made great strides in recent years in becoming easier
to use and more compatible with several computing systems. While the individual
features found in the majority of multifunction office machines can't match
those found in the best individual components, these devices are steadily
improving the features they offer.
Multifunction office machines typically
use one of two types of printing: inkjet or laser. Inkjet is much more
expensive than laser to operate. The consumables (ink) is much more
expensive than the toner. We recommend laser machines over the inkjet
units.
For colour, consider the ES1624nCCS from Okidata. Network-ready printing with full-color output
at up to 16 ppm, mono at 24 ppm. Convenient copying in full-color at up to 16
cpm, black & white (mono) at up to 24 cpm.
For mono (black & white), consider the
new DP190 from
Panasonic. You can use the DP-190 as a high-speed, 19 ppm network printer,
a convenient colour scanner to scan any document which can be sent straight to
any PC on your network or as an email attachment via Internet. Also
from Panasonic, DP-1810F, on sale
for only $2999.00. Includes cabinet. Discontinued model (new).
And new from Xerox, the WorkCentre M20i,
which is a black and white digital copier, network printer, colour or black and
white Fax and Scan to email, at 22 pages per minute. Two-sided printing and
copying is standard on this unit. And also just released from Xerox, the
WorkCentre PE120/PE120i. Up to 3 paper trays including bypass tray. Duty cycle

DIGITAL
DICTATION
Digital
Transcription....New from Sanyo the FSUSB-Pro.
Compatible
with Sanyo's ICR-B50 and ICR-B150 recorders as well as the digital files of many
other manufacturers, this transcription kit allows users to transcribe from
their PC's using a foot pedal and a lightweight headset. "Voice to text" or
speech recognition is based on software in your computer, which understands your
voice, and types on screen what is verbally input into the computer. Sanyo has
joined forces with the industry leader in speech recognition, IBM and using
their ViaVoice software, their digital recorders are able to perform with this
exciting technology. Imagine the improvements in personal productivity when you
can record anywhere in the world, away from your office, and have your computer
automatically type it out on your return. And now, with the new Transcription
Kit, (FSUSBPro) files downloaded may be transcribed in a more traditional
fashion ... one which many offices have used for years. FSUSBPro Transcription
System includes: USB Foot Pedal, Transcription Software, Premium Headset, User
Manual.
Before You Buy A Digital
Recorder Transcriber....Digital voice recordings last longer than tape.
And you can't feed a tape into a PC. Even better, digital recorder transcribers
let you do more than listen to the voice data you've recorded once it's
uploaded; they can operate as full-function transcribers as well.
You have to pick and choose
carefully, however, to be sure you select a digital recorder transcriber that
has all the capabilities your business needs. Some digital recorder
transcribers offer recording times of up to 22 hours, which is great for road
trips. Be sure to check, however, how long you can record in high quality mode,
because this is the quality of recording voice-to-print software will need for
transcription.
For file management purposes, be
sure that the digital voice recorder transcriber will store voice data in a
minimum of three separate folders. Look for a digital recorder transcriber
with a full range of features to make managing your recording tasks easier. Does
the digital recorder have voice activation, for instance, which stops recording
automatically whenever there's a period of silence, or include cue/review
features that make it easier for you to find the section of the recording you
want to play back? Does the digital recorder have an LCD display and what
information is displayed?
You'd be hard pressed to find a
digital recorder transcriber that didn't allow you to transfer voice data to a
PC, but look for one that uses a USB interface and doesn't require you to
purchase a separate adapter to transfer your files. If you're going to
share your digital recorder transcriber with your business associates or
employees, look for one that allows individual user IDs. Some transcription
software includes management features, such as allowing you to assign different
work types to dictation, or automatically sending all your downloaded
transcription to a specific e-mail address.
Highly recommended digital
dictation systems for professional use: Philips Digital Pocket Memo 9350. The 4-Position-Switch has always been met
with much acclaim from users of dictation equipment. The Digital Pocket Memo
9350 now integrates this useful feature into a state-of-the-art digital device.
The single-handed use allows you to continue working in the most familiar way.
Workflow management capabilities enable your PC to identify different jobs
easily and can dramatically speed up the turnaround of work. A range of other
features makes the 9350 the most complete and reliable Pocket Memo in anyone's
memory.
And also from Philips, a brilliant desktop model that makes digital
transcriptions as easy as cassette-based transcription: but with all the
advantages digital developments offer. Such as the exchangeable Multimedia/SD
Card, the industry standard storage media for input, the DSS file format that
offers optimal use of storage space and the Visual Workflow display showing the
number of files, priorities and special instructions. And, of course, the USB
download, the PC feature that allows you to transfer dictation directly to your
PC.
