The Environmental Choice Program (ECP) is designed to support a continuing effort to improve and maintain environmental quality.

It is a program created in 1988 and is owned by Environment Canada. It is managed and delivered by TerraChoice Environmental Services and is the only government - endorsed environmental labelling program in North America. The ECP’s official mark of certification is the EcoLogo.  The EcoLogo lets consumers and professional buyers easily identify products and services that have been approved by the ECP as less harmful to the environment.

To obtain the EcoLogo, stringent criteria had to be met regarding Sharp’s manufacturing and packaging processes. Criteria are developed in consultation with industry, environmental groups and independent academic and scientific advisors, and are approved by Environment Canada.

The criteria included an examination of the following:

- Ozone and Dust Emission Levels
- Noise Levels
- Capability to Use Recycled Paper
- Energy Consumption (Power Saving Devices)
- Chemical products used in the manufacturing process (no CFC’s )
- Default Modes (duplexing etc.) *Packaging Reduction
